Electrified
Delivering reliable renewable energy and enabling economic opportunity across rural Mali.
Mali’s mini-grid sector plays a crucial role in rural electrification, as large parts of the country remain beyond the reach of the national grid and depend on decentralized energy solutions.
What makes our approach unique is that we do not simply install infrastructure. We build local economic ecosystems around energy access. Reliable electricity enables entrepreneurs to expand their businesses, improves healthcare delivery, supports education and creates employment opportunities directly within the communities we serve.
Since 2017, Jigiya Energy has developed and operated intelligent solar mini-grids that deliver reliable, renewable electricity to underserved rural communities. By combining clean power generation and distribution with smart metering and long-term local operation and maintenance, we create the essential infrastructure for economic opportunity, improved public services, and sustainable community development.
We combine renewable energy infrastructure with community empowerment, local partnerships and long-term sustainable development.
Reliable electricity creates opportunities for local entrepreneurs, strengthens essential services and helps rural communities build resilient economies.
By replacing diesel generators and kerosene lamps with renewable electricity, villages gain access to productive energy that supports local businesses, food processing, refrigeration, digital services and other income-generating activities. This creates a multiplier effect that strengthens entire local economies.
Access to reliable electricity transforms far more than homes and businesses, it strengthens the foundations of entire communities. Health centres can provide better and more reliable care, learning opportunities extend beyond daylight hours, public spaces become safer, and improved access to communication and information helps communities stay connected. Together, these changes improve quality of life, strengthen social cohesion and build greater resilience.
Our work therefore extends beyond the provision of electricity itself. We strengthen local healthcare services by connecting and equipping health centres, improve hygiene and sanitation through public washing stations, promote women’s entrepreneurship and support new opportunities for income generation. At the same time, we invest in local capacity by recruiting and training technicians directly from the communities we serve, creating local employment and ensuring that knowledge and responsibility remain within the villages. By combining reliable electricity with targeted community support, we help create the conditions for long-term, inclusive and sustainable rural development.
For us, sustainability means creating lasting impact - environmentally, economically and socially. We replace polluting and costly fossil-fuel-based energy with renewable electricity, while building infrastructure and local capacity designed to serve communities for the long term.
Our approach goes beyond installing solar mini-grids. We operate and maintain our systems over time, invest in local skills and employment, and support productive uses of electricity that strengthen local businesses and rural economies. By combining clean energy with long-term operational responsibility and community development, we help create resilient local structures that can continue to generate opportunities well into the future.
For us, empowerment means giving people and communities the tools to shape their own future. Reliable electricity opens access to new opportunities, but its true impact comes from what people are able to build with it - new businesses, stronger livelihoods, better services and greater economic independence.
We support local entrepreneurs, with a particular focus on women, in turning access to energy into income-generating opportunities. We invest in local skills, recruit and train technicians from the communities we serve, and help create the conditions for businesses to grow and new activities to emerge. By strengthening local capacity, knowledge and economic participation, we enable communities to drive their own development and build a more resilient future.
For us, inclusion means ensuring that the benefits of reliable electricity reach everyone. We work to create opportunities across the communities we serve, regardless of gender, income or social background, so that access to energy becomes a driver of broader participation and shared progress.
We place particular emphasis on women, who often face greater barriers to economic opportunities despite playing a central role in household wellbeing and local economies. By supporting women’s entrepreneurship, enabling access to productive energy and creating new income-generating opportunities, we help strengthen economic independence and participation.
Our goal is to ensure that rural development is not only sustainable, but inclusive — empowering people who have historically had fewer opportunities to contribute to and benefit from local economic growth.
We believe that lasting impact is built together. Rural electrification is not only about energy infrastructure — it requires strong collaboration between communities, local authorities, civil society, financial institutions and the private sector to create sustainable change.
We work closely with local and regional authorities, community organisations and associations to ensure that our activities respond to local priorities and are embedded in the communities we serve. Partnerships with organisations such as CAMIDE bring valuable expertise in community engagement, entrepreneurship and local capacity building, while our collaboration with the microfinance institution BENSO helps connect entrepreneurs — particularly women and underserved groups — with the financial services they need to invest, grow and turn access to electricity into economic opportunity.
By bringing together complementary expertise, local knowledge and financial resources, we build partnerships that extend the impact of electricity far beyond the grid itself. For us, partnership means creating shared value, strengthening local structures and working together towards long-term, inclusive and sustainable rural development.
We partner with governments, investors, development institutions, NGOs and local communities to expand access to reliable, affordable and sustainable energy across rural Mali.
